Drying Your Turkish Towel the Right Way!

Here on Turkan Home, you’ll notice that we always recommend air drying our Turkish towels over the tumble setting on your machine. Here’s a couple reasons why!

One of the first things I bought when I moved to the US was a foldable laundry rack. Depending on the weather conditions, I either use my balcony or my living room near the balcony to dry my laundry.

The first reason I choose to air dry over using a machine is to reduce my carbon print. The added benefit to this is I completely avoid the upfront cost of a dryer. This is ultimately easier on my wallet on a month-to-month basis in addition to that immediate investment that comes with purchasing those machines. (Not to mention, I love the smell of freshly air-dried laundry over tumble dried!)

The second benefit to air drying over tumble drying is that the life of my pieces
increases by tenfold. Regardless of whether you use a low-heat setting on your dryer machine or not, the quality of the fabric decreases after every wash. The lint in your clothes gets stripped away—which in turn, takes away that soft feeling and overall absorbency of your fabrics over time. Even bed sheets made with natural fibers get softer after each wash when if you stick to air drying.

And if that’s not already enough, the ultra-violet rays from the sun actually help to bleach and disinfect your drying laundry. To avoid that bleaching on your dark-colored cloths/blankets, simply keep them in a shaded area to prevent that fading.

Not to mention, if you choose to dry you clothes indoors, this can add much needed humidity during those dry heat summer days!

The best part of all this is I know I’m helping the environment through energy
conservation while saving money and preserving the life of my clothing and textiles!
